Philo

A live TV service built for how people watch today.

I was the design leader for Philo from the very beginning through 1M+ subscribers. Over the years I shipped the product across 6 platforms, built the design system, led brand development, and grew the design team.

When I joined Philo, it was a product for the education market, based on physical encoders and local installation at colleges in the U.S. After signing deals for content with major producers like Discovery Networks and Viacom, the task for our 6-person team was to create a brand new streaming service for any U.S. consumer to access cable channels for an extraordinarily affordable cost.

I worked closely with the CEO Andrew McCollum and the head of Product Devon Williams, to align design decisions tightly with the product direction. Through the first 2 years of the product I did all the product and visual design, and some front-end development on web.

We eventually supported six platforms (as of 2022), including Roku, FireTV, Android, iOS, tvOS, and web.
